The UP GWA is your General Weighted Average on the University of the Philippines 1.00–5.00 scale: multiply each subject grade by its units, sum the products, and divide by total units. 1.00 is the highest grade, 3.00 is the passing mark, and lower is better.
Published UP System thresholds are roughly 1.45 or better for University Scholar and better than 1.45 up to 1.75 for College Scholar, per semester, with a regular load (usually at least 15 units) and no failing, conditional, or incomplete grades. Confirm the current cutoffs with your own college.
3.00. Grades from 3.25 upward (up to 5.00) are failing; 4.00 is a conditional grade that can be removed by re-examination or extra work, and 5.00 is an outright fail.
The computation is the same unit-weighted average. UP-specific points are the 4.00 conditional grade, the PE/NSTP exclusion, the 15-unit load requirement for scholar standing, and the scholastic-delinquency percentages.
Cumulative GWA brackets at graduation are approximately 1.20 or better for Summa Cum Laude, 1.45 for Magna, and 1.75 for Cum Laude — alongside a clean record (no 5.00, no unremoved 4.00 or INC) and residency requirements. Verify with your university's current student code.
